Finding And Naming Shapes

Caterpillars have been balancing blocks to make towers….and knocking them down! Ladybirds have been looking at various sized objects and using different words for sizes – “big” “massive” “tiny” “small”. In Bumble Bees, the children have been finding shapes in the environment and naming 2D shapes. “The mirror is an oval, like an egg” “the zero is a circle”. They’ve coloured their own pictures, using one colour for each shape.

Busy Numbers Week

Nursery has been very busy with Numbers this week. Caterpillars have been singing the rhyme ‘3 Little Speckled Frogs’, jumping (well, maybe crawling!) from their lily pads into the pond! Ladybirds have made lots of delicious currant buns for this week’s rhyme – ‘5 Currant Buns’. They’ve been talking about money and pennies too. In Bumble Bees, the children have made a Pizza Shop and counted their different toppings, been on a number walk and explored Numicon.
“That yellow one is number 3!”

“We found numbers in big school.”

Talking About Our Families

Caterpillars have been exploring their toys and playing musical instruments. Ladybirds have been colour mixing and painting pictures to display. Laura’s Explorers Woodland Group made brilliant patterns with acorns, and Bumble Bees have all made woolly bees for their hive display. We have all been talking about our families this week and some children have drawn their own families.
“That’s me, daddy, mum and my little baby.  That’s Lucy, she’s my dog”.

Bonfires And Fireworks

This week, the children have been talking a lot about the fireworks and bonfires that they saw over the weekend. Caterpillars explored lots of bright colours for their firework printing pictures. Children in Ladybirds made a group bonfire for their Autumn display, “we made a big bonfire”, “we got sticks and flames on it”. Bumble Bees made bonfire and firework scene pictures and some sparkly rockets to hang up in the classroom, “they went pop and bang, really loud”, “we went to Midhurst to see the fireworks, orange and blue and purple, I liked the purple ones best”.

“Hmmm, This Soup’s Tasty!”

Caterpillars have finished their Autumn leaf wreaths this week. Ladybirds have been making fruit salad, looking at different fruits (pineapple, mango, watermelon) and tasting them. Bumbles Bees have been talking about different vegetables, how they grow and making soup to try. “Ugh the onion smells yuk”, “mmm this soup’s tasty”. There were lots of puddles in the garden so we made colourful puddles with paint!
